Not his boss
A 60-year-old Monroe man was working at his home office on Aug. 19 when he received an email from someone posing as the boss of his law firm.
The “boss” asked him for his cellphone number and texted him, telling him to go to the nearest grocery store to buy $1,500 worth of Sephora gift cards. When he questioned the odd request, his “boss” told him it was for clients. The man bought the cards, took a photo of the serial numbers and texted it.
After he sent it, the number was blocked and he realized he had been scammed, police said.
Lt. Kevin McKellick advises residents not to take pictures of serial numbers of gift cards and send it to someone.
The incident is under investigation.
