Monroe Police Reports: Two-vehicle-crash, arrest on warrants

MONROE, CT — A 45-year-old Sandy Hook man was given a ticket after being involved in a two-vehicle-crash at the intersection of Turkey Roost and Fan Hill roads on Aug. 16.

Police said he was driving west on Turkey Roost Road, toward Elm Street, in his 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, when he struck the side of a 2023 Chevy Traverse heading south on Fan Hill Road at approximately 8:25 a.m.

The driver of the Chevy, a 46-year-old Monroe woman, was evaluated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel, before being taken to Bridgeport Hospital with possible injuries. Her 11-year-old female passenger was not hurt, according to police.

The Sandy Hook man reportedly refused medical attention.

Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage.

The Monroe woman told officers the Sandy Hook driver did not stop at the stop sign on Turkey Roost Road, before crossing over Fan Hill Road. She said she tried to avoid a collision, but could not, according to the report.

The Sandy Hook man told police he did stop at the stop sign, but inched his vehicle forward slightly to make sure traffic was clear in both directions, and did not notice the Chevy Traverse until it was too late.

Police found the Sandy Hook man to be at fault and issued him a ticket for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.

Arrested on two warrants

A 45-year-old Wells Road man, who was arrested for allegedly punching his wife when she was holding their baby during an argument on July 9, turned himself in on two warrants on Aug. 16.

One warrant charged him with violation of a condition of his release, because he allegedly returned to the home and the other warrant charged him with failure to appear in court to answer charges for the original arrest.

He was released on $10,000 bond for violation of conditions of release and $25,000 court set bond for failure to appear in court and was scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 19.
