Monroe police make several DUI arrests

MONROE, CT — A 53-year-old Trumbull woman was charged with DUI Saturday night, after a police officer saw her allegedly fail to obey a stop sign at the intersection of Porters Hill and Purdy Hill roads in her gray Honda CRV, according to the report.

The officer, who also learned the registration on the vehicle had been expired since April, conducted a motor vehicle stop near the 70-block of Elm Street, police said.

While speaking to the driver, police said officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic coming from her person, and that she admitted to drinking wine at a restaurant earlier in the night.

Field sobriety tests determined she was under the influence, leading to her arrest and her vehicle was towed police said. Later, at police headquarters, she allegedly refused to submit to breath test.

She was charged with DUI, failure to register a motor vehicle, and failure to stop at a stop sign and released on $500 bond for a Dec. 16 court date.

The incident occurred around 7:13 p.m.

Crash leads to DUI

A 49-year-old Trumbull woman was charged with DUI after crashing her black 2013 Land Rover into a stone retaining wall in the 700-block of Monroe Turnpike around noon on Sunday.

Officers arriving on the scene saw the front passenger-side of the vehicle up against the wall at the end of a residential driveway, according to the report.

When officers asked the driver what happened, she gave them a blank stare and started using hand gestures, police said, adding the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanated from her.

Police said she appeared to be confused and was unable to answer basic questions. She was unable to complete field sobriety tests and breath tests at headquarters showed her blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit, police said.

She was charged with DUI second offense and released on $500 bond for a Dec. 17 court date.

 DUI: Beer bottle in center console

A 42-year-old Monroe man was charged with DUI following a traffic stop in his 2021 Lincoln on Fan Hill Road, near Lynn Drive, on Nov. 23.

The officer, who stopped the driver around 10:26 p.m. due to a cancelled license plate, noticed an open beer bottle in the center console, according to police.

The driver told officers he was coming from a bar in Oxford, where he had drank several hours ago. Police also smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and the man admitted to smoking pot several hours ago, according to the report.

Field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence and, while searching for weapons, officers found a bag of marijuana on his person, police said.

He was charged with DUI and operating an unregistered motor vehicle, then released on $500 bond for a Dec. 10 court date.

Breach of peace

A 21-year-old Shelton woman was arrested on a Monroe warrant Nov. 29 after allegedly stalking her ex-boyfriend on Nov. 1. She was charged with breach of peace and released on $1,000 bond, and was expected to appear in court on Monday of this week.

On Nov. 1, her ex-boyfriend went to the Trumbull Police Department to ask officers for assistance, because he said she followed him all the way to Trumbull.

When Trumbull police could not find the woman, police said the ex-boyfriend drove to Noble Gas in Monroe and noticed she had followed him there, according to the report. At approximately 9:50 p.m., he called Monroe police.

Police said the Shelton woman seemed confused, but did not deny following her ex-boyfriend. While speaking with officers, she felt ill, vomited and was taken to a hospital.

Officers applied for the arrest warrant for breach of peace after the incident and it was signed by a judge.

Pedestrian struck

A 51-year-old Hills of Monroe man was conscious and walking around after suffering a leg injury when he was hit by a 2012 Honda Civic, while crossing Windgate Circle to get to his parked car early Saturday morning.

Police said the Honda struck the man’s left leg, knocking him to the ground, around 6:42 a.m. He was treated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel, then taken to Bridgeport Hospital for further evaluation.

The driver of the Honda, a 47-year-old woman, was also a resident of the complex.

Crash at R.R. underpass

An 18-year-old Newtown woman was heading north on High Rock Road, just north of Hammertown Road, and was approaching the railroad underpass when her blue 2007 Jeep Wrangler veered to the right and struck the wall Friday night, according to police.

Police said the impact was on the vehicle’s front-passenger-side fender and wheel, adding the Jeep had to be towed due to disabling damage. The driver did not appear to be injured.

She was given a warning for failure to drive in proper lane.

The crash occurred around 9:13 p.m.
