MONROE, CT — Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s tracking software led to the arrest of a man, who allegedly kept a white 2023 Toyota Camry over 25 days longer than the return date Aug. 13.
William J. Walker, 45, whose last known address was on Elm Street in Monroe, was charged with first-degree larceny and released on $5,000 bond for an Aug. 21 court date.
On Aug. 12, the manager of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 75 Main St., told police Walker had an agreement to rent the Toyota from July 2 to 6, but failed to return it 25 days after the due date, while allegedly not responding to numerous emails and phone calls from the business.
A repossession company was sent to his address on Elm Street, but was unable to seize the vehicle, according to the report.
Police officers visited the property and the landlord told them Walker was recently evicted for not paying his rent.
Then on Aug. 13, the Enterprise manager reported tracking the stolen vehicle heading north on Route 25 just after 6 p.m. Police said it was last seen turning onto Route 111 (Monroe Turnpike), heading north.
Officers stopped the vehicle and made the arrest on Route 111, near the Trumbull town line. Police said the Toyota Camry was valued at $30,000.
Crash on Stanley Road
A 38-year-old Danbury man was issued a misdemeanor summons for failure to have insurance, traveling too fast and driving without a seatbelt after crashing his 2015 Nissan Sentra into a stonewall on the dirt portion of Stanley Road, near Judd Road, on Aug. 12.
The driver was evaluated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Services personnel and taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment. Firefighters also responded to the call.
At approximately 11:41 p.m., police said the Sentra damaged 20 to 25 feet of the stonewall, which had barbed wire at the top, and also struck a tree, which fell onto farm equipment stored behind the wall.
The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.
