Monroe police investigating circumstances of toddler’s shooting

MONROE, CT — Police are investigating an incident, in which a two-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to his hand and foot Tuesday night. The toddler was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and will be transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital for surgery, according to police.

At 9:21 p.m., Monroe police officers and Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to the intersection of routes 110 and Osborn Lane for an emergency medical call and discovered the injured child.

Through their investigation, officers and detectives determined the incident took place at the juvenile’s residence on Wheeler Road in Monroe. Upon learning of the injuries, the juvenile’s mother attempted to transport him to a local hospital for treatment before calling 911.

Detectives are currently investigating the circumstance under which the injuries occurred.
