MONROE, CT — A man accused of leaving his dog behind, most likely without food and water for days, after being evicted from a house on Elm Street turned himself in on a warrant for one count of cruelty to animals Wednesday night, according to police.
Police said Monroe Animal Control responded to the house on Aug. 2 and took control of the white pit bull, which showed signs of neglect, and began the process of trying to find the evicted owner, William J. Walker, 46.
Walker was last at the house on July 29, according to the report.
Police said they tried multiple avenues to reach out to Walker, but he never returned any phone calls or reached out to inquire where his dog was. Animal control ultimately contacted his ex-wife and released the dog to her.
Walker was charged and released after posting $5,000 bond for a Nov. 8 court date.
Assault with a vehicle
A man told police someone driving a gray Lexus intentionally struck him on Gay Bower Road following a verbal altercation in the Village Square parking lot Wednesday night, according to a complaint made Thursday afternoon.
He told officers a car transporter was making a delivery of a vintage Chevy Camaro, and he was waiting in the parking lot with a group of friends.
They later gathered around the vehicle and were talking when a young male in a gray Lexus and his passenger began to circle around him every five minutes or so, yelling in an attempt to antagonize them, the report said.
That sparked a verbal argument. At some point, someone in the Lexus threw something at the victim and his friends, before speeding off through the parking lot, police said.
The complainant attempted to intercept the vehicle as it left the parking lot. While he stood on Gay Bower Road, he reportedly yelled at the driver, telling him to stop and get out of the car.
The car stopped initially, according to complainant, before the driver hit the gas and attempted to run the victim over. Police said he landed on the hood, striking the windshield, before going over the hood and hitting the pavement.
Police said he had minor injuries.
It is unclear at this time why the complainant did not report the incident right away, police said, adding detectives are investigating.
DUI and heroin
A 43-year-old woman was charged with DUI after officers responding to a complaint of an erratic driver heading south on Main Street (Route 25) spotted her 2007 Subaru Legacy and observed it swerving from side to side Tuesday morning, according to police.
Police said the driver seemed lethargic and was unable to answer basic questions, before her performance on field sobriety tests showed she was under the influence.
While officers were searching her vehicle, police said the woman admitted to having heroin in her purse. Police said the substance officers found tested positive for the drug.
The woman was charged with driving under in the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to stay in the proper lane and possession of a controlled substance. She was released on a combined $1,000 bond for a Nov. 6 court date.
The heroin was seized as evidence.
The arrest occurred in the 170-block of Main Street around 9:22 a.m.
Crash into a utility pole
A 21-year-old Danbury man was driving a gray 2010 Toyota Corolla north on Monroe Turnpike (Route 111) early Monday morning, when he went off the right side of the road and crashed into a utility pole, just north of east village road.
He reportedly told officers he was negotiating a curve when he felt tired, just before losing control of his vehicle. Police said the man was not injured and his Toyota had to be towed due to disabling damage.
The driver was issued a misdemeanor summons for driving with a suspended license and failure to stay in the proper lane.
The accident occurred around 4:36 a.m.
Theft at Great Hollow Lake
A 62-year-old Trumbull woman told officers she believes someone stole credit cards from her purse when she left it inside her unlocked vehicle during a visit to Great Hollow Lake Monday, according to a complaint made Tuesday.
Later that Monday night, police said the woman received texts from American Express and Chase Bank confirming charges, both for $2,316 at Bloomingdales in Norwalk. She declined the charges.
She is currently not out of any money and the matter is being investigated by the Monroe Detective Division.
Stolen vehicle
A 20-year-old Elm Street man told police someone stole his gray 2010 Infiniti G37 from his driveway around 2 a.m. Thursday, when his brother reportedly heard the car start up.
He told officers he last saw his car at 7 p.m. the night before, adding it has only one key and he is positive he locked it before going inside, according to the report.
Police said officers did not observe any broken glass on the ground and no other vehicles were entered or stolen in area that evening.
Monroe detectives are investigating the matter.
