Monroe police arrest New Haven man in alleged theft of wallet

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A New Haven man was served an arrest warrant at the Superior Court in Bridgeport Friday, charging him in the theft of a wallet from a business owner at the Monroe Professional Building, 450 Monroe Turnpike, on Sept. 13.

Walter Ford, 46, allegedly stole the wallet, containing $356 in cash, from behind a counter inside the business and ran up just under $2,100 worth of charges on the credit cards, before the victim cancelled them — making purchases in Trumbull, Derby, Waterbury and Monroe, according to police.

Monroe police saw the same suspect on surveillance video at several locations and, through their investigation, identified the man as Ford, police said.

He was charged with one count of fourth-degree larceny, three counts of illegal use of a payment card and three counts of payment card theft.

After Monroe police charged Ford, they turned him back over to the judicial marshals.

Shoplifting arrest

A Torrington man with a laundry list of arrests on larceny charges was served a Monroe warrant at Superior Court in Bridgeport Friday, charging him with the theft of $995 worth of Similac Alimentum baby formula from Stop & Shop, 470 Monroe Turnpike.

Jesse M. Marks, 30, was charged with fifth-degree larceny and turned back over to judicial marshals, police said.

On Sept. 19, police said Marks entered the store with bags he brought with him, walked directly to the baby aisle, concealed 26 units of Similac Alimentum in the bags, and left without paying.

Toyota Forerunner on its roof

A one-vehicle-crash on Judd Road, near the Easton town line, led to the DUI arrest of a 42-year-old Stratford man Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 3:46 p.m., Monroe police officers responded to the accident, in which a gray 2023 Toyota Forerunner ended up on its roof.

An Easton officer, who was the first to arrive at the scene, told Monroe’s officers he saw the driver crawling out of the driver’s side door window, according to the report.

When Monroe officers spoke to the driver they detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him, police said, adding the driver told them he crashed while trying to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway.

He admitted to having drank five beers at his friend’s house and officers saw a bottle of whiskey, beer bottles and cans of White Claw hard seltzer that were visible inside the vehicle, police said.

The driver did not perform field sobriety tests to standard and later agreed to submit a urine sample, before being charged with DUI and failure to maintain the proper lane. He was released on $500 non-surety bond for a Jan. 28 court date.

Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel treated the man for injuries at the scene and he was in police custody when transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
