The Monroe Parks and Recreation eighth grade boys travel basketball team won the Silver bracket championship at InSports in the Milford Knights Basketball League on Sunday, Feb. 9.
“This is the second year of our program, as well as having Coach Jed Wittenberger and Coach Josh Wittenberger volunteer their time to coach and take on a new group of eighth graders to win in this league,” Parks and Recreation Director Missy Orosz said, adding that both men are Masuk High School graduates.
Monroe’s eighth grade team, which was the fourth seed in the tournament, beat No. 1 seeded St. Theresa 44-26 in the semifinals on Sunday, Feb. 2, before winning the championship over the Orangemen by a score of 33-30.
“Up next for this talented bunch is their continued play in the Fairfield County Basketball League, as well the upcoming Hoop Fest tournament sponsored by the Milford Knights League,” Orosz said.
The players include Mandell Allen Jr., John Angelopoulos, Tyler August, Keith Belden, Gavin Brito; Cristian Desanti, James Farrer, Michael Naughton, Dylan Valle and Christopher Wassmann.
