Monroe mourns the loss of David Lewis Sr. and Barbara Lewis

David Alan Lewis Sr. and Barbara Ann Lewis

David Alan Lewis Sr. and Barbara Ann Lewis formerly of Monroe, Conn., and currently of Avon Park, Fla., passed away suddenly on May 13, 2023. Dave and Barb were married for 53 years.

Upon Dave’s return from Vietnam in 1971 they raised three boys. David Alan Lewis Jr, Carl David Lewis and Daniel Jay Lewis. The three of them gave Dave and Barb a total of seven grandchildren whom they loved dearly.

David was 72 and a graduate of Masuk High School and served in the Army from 1969 to 1972. He was a life member, a past Chief of the Stepney Volunteer Fire Department, and was a career firefighter in Fairfield Connecticut IAFF 1426.

Barbara was 71 and a graduate of Masuk High School. She worked many different jobs while raising her three boys until 1990 when she became an LPN and began work at St. Josephs Manor in Trumbull.

In 1998 Barbara left her nursing career and obtained her CDL-A license. She began driving tractor trailer trucks with David who also had his CDL-A license and in 2001 the two of them became owners/operators and team drivers. Together they racked up over two million miles crossing all over the country until 2017.

They enjoyed the last six years of their retirement as “snowbirds” and split their time between Connecticut and Florida until recently when they became full time Florida Residents.

In their retirement Dave and Barb enjoyed spending time with their Florida family at the American Legion Post 69 in Avon Park where they often joined the Legion in their motorcycle ventures, as well as with Barbara’s sister Sandra Frater.

There will be two celebrations of life services for Dave and Barbara. Friends and family are invited to join either or both.
