MONROE, CT — Picklefest is coming back to the Monroe Farmers’ Market this Friday when the weekly event is held on the town green from 3 to 6 p.m.
“There’s no better way to celebrate the bumper crops of cucumbers coming in for all our farmers,” said Kelly Plunkett, the market manager.
Pickle samples will be available at the Tasting Tent courtesy of Carrot Top Kitchens, and pickle lemonade and pickle popsicles will be available for purchase. The event will also have pickle baked goods, such as focaccia and scones, as well as cucumber Italian ice, pickle kettle corn and pickle based pork empanadas.
“Of course all of our farmers will have plenty of cucumbers on hand for you to purchase since cucumbers are just pickle ‘wannabes,’” Plunkett said.
For the kids, there will be a free “Make Your Own Pickles” activity, face painting, tattoos and even a Pickle parade with pickle royalty.
Plunkett said the first 100 customers to wear something green will receive a $1 token.
Music this week is the popular Altar Ego Band known for bringing a party vibe, as audiences sing along to their favorite songs, according to Plunkett.
