Monroe Elementary students honor veterans with music

Monroe Elementary School students have the Stars and Stripes on their masks during "A Proud Nation," their Veterans Day Assembly, Thursday.

MONROE, CT — Monroe Elementary School music teacher Alyson O’Grady led her students in a Veterans Day Assembly for families on the playground Thursday afternoon.

The children sang patriotic songs like “God Bless America,” “God Bless the USA” and “America the Beautiful” to a large crowd on the sunny fall day.

Among the veterans in attendance were Manuel Gomes, Navy; Morrie Marino, Navy; Mike Marino, Marines; Dennis Fortin, Marines; Joe Cramer, Marines; Joe Morelli, Air Force; Henry G. Falasco, Air Force; John Nacovitch, Army; Pat Reda, Army; John Fracassini, Air Force; and Stephen Mentes, Army.

  1. It was a great performance, just confused why the kids were made to wear masks while outside preforming and the principle and other staff didn’t have to wear their masks?
