MONROE, CT — Police are investing an attempted burglary at Sippin Energy Products, 234 Main St., that took place late Saturday night.

At approximately 11:49 p.m., officers were dispatched to the business for a burglar alarm. While officers searched the parking lot and storefront, a key holder for Sippin Energy Products arrived on the scene to grant them entry into the building.

The officers searched the interior of the building and found an open rear window with a rock on a nearby chair, according to police.

Then detectives arrived, processed the scene and watched video surveillance footage capturing two suspects on foot, jumping a nearby fence and heading south on Main Street. Police said the burglars fled without taking anything when the alarm had sounded.

The business is next door to Blue Line Firearms & Tactical, which was previously burglarized and was the scene of an attempted break-in in May.

Arrest in neighborhood thefts

Monroe police detectives arrested a suspect last week, who allegedly stole a wallet containing $100 cash and a credit card from an unlocked 2021 Subaru Forester, while it was parked in a driveway on Hawthorne Drive on Aug. 29. It was among a rash of overnight thefts in the neighborhood.

During the ensuing investigation detectives learned the suspect and his accomplice allegedly tried to use the credit card at a deli in New Haven, but the purchase was denied because the victim quickly canceled the card.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect and, by working with neighboring police departments, they gathered enough evidence to apply for a juvenile arrest warrant for the New Haven teen.

Police said the youth was already in the custody of the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center, when Monroe detectives charged him, issuing a summons for conspiracy to commit credit card theft, conspiracy to illegally use a credit card, and conspiracy to commit a criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny.

He is scheduled to appear at New Haven Juvenile Matters today (Tuesday) and the case is ongoing.
