MONROE, CT — Monroe Elementary School will welcome five new teachers when the new school year begins on Wednesday. Below are profiles of each.
Molly Johnson
Position: Speech language pathologist

Grew Up In: Milford
Education: Case Western Reserve University, Southern Connecticut State University
What do you like most about teaching?: I love helping students find their voices and communicate with their friends, teachers, and families.
What are you most looking forward to in Monroe?: I’m looking forward to meeting new people and joining a wonderful school community!
Sabrina Phillips
Position: 4th grade teacher
Previous School District: Fairfield Public Schools
Grew Up In: Seattle, Wash.
Education: Masters in Education from Sacred Heart University and studying for a 6th Year degree in Technology from Fairfield University
What do you like most about teaching?: The one thing I love most about teaching is being able to witness and be a part of the learning process for each student. The process looks different for every student, so being able to modify, support and challenge students motivates me to be the best I can be for them.
I also love to see students take risks and learn from each other and work together. It’s important to create a community full of curious learners.
What are you most looking forward to in Monroe?: From day one the Monroe community has been amazing and supportive. Everyone has welcomed me with open arms, and I can’t wait to do the same for my students! I’m looking forward to working with families and staff and making a positive impact on students.
Kristen Rosati
Position: Reading specialist

Grew Up In: Trumbull
Education: Master of Science in Education, 6th Year Certificate in Remedial Reading and Language Arts.
What do you like most about teaching?: I love helping children grow their confidence as young readers and writers.
What are you most looking forward to in Monroe?: I am so excited to be joining such a robust learning community in Monroe. I am really looking forward to building relationships with the students, families and my new colleagues.
Rachel Wiberg
Position: Speech language pathologist

Grew Up In: Newtown
Education: University of Connecticut for undergraduate and graduate degrees
What do you like most about teaching?: I love being a preschool SLP because I get to work on communication skills through play and establish a genuine connection with each of my students.
What are you most looking forward to in Monroe?: I can’t wait to get to know the Monroe community, both staff and families, as I’ve heard such wonderful things!
Christina Marren
Position: Special education teacher

Grew Up In: Watertown
Education: University of Connecticut: Master of Arts – Special Education; Southern Connecticut State University: Master of Science – Reading
What do you like most about teaching?: My favorite part about teaching is seeing the look on my students’ faces when they master a skill they have been working on. It is a rewarding feeling for myself and for my students.
What are you most looking forward to in Monroe?: I am really looking forward to being apart of the Monroe community. Everyone I have met has been very supportive and welcoming. I love hearing all of the connections people have with the town and how long they have been in the district. I can tell it is a great place to work and I am glad I get to be apart of it!
