MONROE, CT — Ella McGee, a freshman on the Masuk Indoor Track team, qualified for the New Balance Nationals, to be held at the sneaker company’s world headquarters in Boston on March 10.
She competes in the 600 meters, the sprint medley relay and the 4 x 400 meter relay.
“I came into the season thinking I would be running short distances, so being put in these events was definitely different than what I was used to,” McGee said. “My personal record for the 600 is 1:47.91. This time is what qualified me for running the open 400 at nationals.”
McGee’s proud parents are Erin and Juan McGee and she has two siblings, brother, Jace, 12, and sister, JJ, 9.
Though it is her first year of high school sports, McGee’s confidence grew throughout the season.
“At the beginning of the season, I never would have thought that I could have qualified for nationals,” she said. “The whole team has been such a positive influence, especially Coach [Sarah] Barrett, Coach Jenna [Dorosh] and Coach [Milan] Spisek, who have pushed me this entire season.”
