MONROE, CT — The Masuk High girls’ swimming and diving team is in the midst of its postseason competition. The South-West Conference diving championships were held Tuesday in New Fairfield (results to follow after Saturday’s meet) and the swim events take place at Masuk on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The Panthers finished the regular season with a 97-81 loss to visiting Newtown on Oct. 25.
Masuk’s 200 yard medley relay of Eva Helmke, Lucia Morales, Juliette Eaton and Yara Shaik placed second in a time of 2:07.14.
Helmke won the 50 freestyle race in 26.05.
In the diving competition, Carly Jordan was second with a score of 210.20. Teammate Kate Wittenauer placed third with a 206.65.
Eaton was second in the 100 butterfly race, finishing in 109.48.
Masuk’s 200 free relay of Abby Kirberger, Eaton, Shaik and Morales placed second in 1:58.98.
Newtown locked up the team win and exhibitioned the last three races.
Grace Sheppard was Masuk’s fastest in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:20.97. Morales was fastest in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.90. The first Masuk team in the 400 free relay comprised Siobhan Smith, Emily Hull, Kirberger and Claire Valle with a time of 4:53.91.
