Masuk swimmers celebrate Senior Night, wrap up regular season

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls swimming and diving team concluded its regular season with a 99-76 Senior Night win over New Fairfield on Oct. 15 and a 99-85 loss at Newtown on Oct. 22.

Seniors recognized are Jocelyn Allen, Ruthie Giduthuri, Carly Jordan, Bella Kantor, Abby Kirberger, Tierney McGunnigle, Lucia Morales, Siobhan Riordan, Alyssa Schneider and Niti Shah.

Divers Jordan and Eliza Palmieri swam the 200 free relay as the Panthers mixed a little fun in with competition on this special night.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Lena Savkovic, Lucia Morales, Izzy Murzinska and Skye Eannotti was first in a time of 2:06.73.

Betty Glus won the 200 freestyle race in 2:23.70. Savkovic was first in the 200 individual medley race in 2:30.34. Morales took first in the 50 in 26.96.

Jordan won the diving competition with a score of 212.55.

Murzinska was first in the 100 free in 1:01.01. Eannotti won the 500 finishing in 6:09.67.

The 200 free relay of Savkovic, Murzinska, Eannotti and Morales was first in 1:57.53.

Masuk sealed the team win and exhibitioned the remaining races. Savkovic was the fastest to swim the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.71. Morales led the way in the 100 breaststroke race in 1:14.89.

The 400 free relay team of Abby Kirberger, Tierney McGunnigle, Glus and Eannotti finished the race in 4:34.81.

In the Newtown meet Jordan was the top diver with a score of 215.05. Savkovic was first in the backstroke race in 1:06.35.

The Panthers will compete in the South-West Conference Championships with diving at New Fairfield High Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 5:30 p.m. and the swim events at Masuk’s pool Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. (moved up from the original 5 p.m. start time).
