Masuk swim team piles up best times and postseason qualifiers

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls swim and dive team lost a pair of home meets Friday, Sept. 13, and Tuesday, Sept. 17, but recorded plenty of best times and postseason qualifying times along the way.

First came a 100-78 loss to Pomperaug. In that meet Masuk had 28 best times, 10 qualifying events for the South-West Conference Championships, and five more state qualifying times, some swimmers in multiple events.

Skye Eannotti, Stella Oliviera, Lena Savkovic, Tierney McGunnigle, Siobhan Riordan and Lucia Morales all qualified for SWCs. Savkovic, Carly Jordan and Morales all qualified for states.

Masuk had 21 best times, 25 SWC cuts and 11 state meet qualifying times following a 96-84 loss to the Joel Barlow co-op in the next meet.

Against Pomperaug, the 200 yard medley relay team of Savkovic, Morales, Stella Oliveria and Eannotti came in second in 2:08.41.

Savkovic was runner-up in the 50 freestyle race in 26.64.

Jordan took second in the diving competition with a score of 193.80.

Abby Kirberger came in second in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:03.02. In the 500 free Savkovic placed second in 5:54.59.

The 200 free relay team of Morales, Laney Stilway, Eannotti and Savkovic was second in 1:55.05.

In the Barlow meet the 200 medley relay team of Savkovic, Morales, Izzy Murzinska and Eannotti took second in 2:04.82.

Morales was second in the 50 free in 26.59.

Jordan won the diving competition with a score of 196.25 and Eliza Palmieri was second in the competition scoring 160.20. Riordan was third with a score of 150.65.

Savkovic was second in the 100 free with a time of 59.22. Eannotti placed second in the 500 finishing her laps in 6:11.10.

The 200 free relay team of Oliveria, Siobhan Smith, Anastazja Malecka and Ishani Tyagi came in second in 2:05.22.

Savkovic won the 100 backstroke event, finishing in 1:05.21. Morales was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.30.

Barlow exhibitioned the 400 free relay; Masuk had the second-fastest relay with Stilway, Malecka, Oliveria and Betty Glus earning a time of 4:36.95.

Masuk hosts Weston Thursday at 4 p.m.
