WESTON, CT — The Masuk High girls swimming and diving team had some standout performances in the South-West Conference Championships. The Panthers came in fifth as a team with a score of 232. Pomperaug of Southbury was first with a score of 562.
The swim events were held at Weston Middle School on Saturday after the diving finals took place at New Fairfield High on Oct. 30. The swim portion of the championships traditionally takes place at Masuk’s pool, but had to be relocated due to a mechanical issue with the pool.
Masuk’s swimmers practiced at Shelton Community Center and the divers went through their routines at Newtown High as they prepared for the championships.
Panther standout Carly Jordan captured the diving title with a score of 336.35. Siobhan Riordan was ninth with a score of 265.85 and Eliza Palmieri came in 14th with a 225.55.
In the swimming events Lena Savkovic was fourth in the 50 yard freestyle event in a time of 25.92 and finished fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.91.
Savkovic also anchored the fifth-place 200 yard free relay team, which included Lucia Morales, Izabella Murzinska and Skye Eannotti and finished in 1:50.66.
Morales came in sixth in the 100 free with a time of 58.00 and was sixth in the 100 breaststroke event in 1:13.16. . Murzinski was ninth in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.98.
The 200 medley relay comprising Savkovic, Morales, Murzinska and Eannotti was seventh in 2:00.62.
Masuk’s 400 free relay of Stella Oliviera, Anastazja Malecka, Tierney McGunnigle and Betty Glus placed eighth in 4:24.72.
