MONROE, CT — The South-West Conference’s top seeded Masuk High Panthers softball team is one win from a return to a spot in the championship game.
Masuk, coming off a 7-1 win over New Fairfield in the quarterfinals on Friday, will face Pomperaug of Southbury in the Monday, May 20, semis at Stratford’s DeLuca Field starting at 7 p.m.
In the quarterfinal round, junior, Julia Bacoulis compiled 14 strikeouts in five innings pitched and junior Madison Aguirre had five Ks of her own in two innings of work.
Natalie Lieto collected three hits in four at bats with a solo home run in the third inning, a double in the sixth inning, and a single in the fifth inning. Sofia Lieto and Ciena Perpetuo each had two hits and Julianna Falcone and Grace Ely each added a hit.
The Panthers followed up their tourney opener, with one more regular season game on Saturday and defeated Amity of Woodbridge 8-1 to end their season with a record of 20-0.
Madison Aguirre pitched two innings and had three strikeouts and Bacoulis pitched five innings and had seven strikeouts.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Natalie Lieto walked and Julianna Falcone singled, scoring one run. Ciena Perpetuo went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI. Sofia Lieto had a single and four RBI. Natalie Lieto, Bacoulis and Aguirre each collected a hit.
