STRATFORD, CT — The top seed in the South-West Conference, Masuk High’s softball team will look to claim the conference title when the Panthers take on No. 3 Newtown at DeLuca Field for a Wednesday night, May 22, showdown at 7 p.m.
The Panthers, who defeated No. 4 Pomperaug of Southbury 6-2 in the semifinals at DeLuca Monday night, defeated Newtown 7-1 in early May.
Pitcher Julia Bacoulis allowed just two hits and one earned run, walked three and struck out 15.
At the plate, Bacoulis and Madison Aguirre doubled; Aguirre drove in three of the Panther runs and Bacoulis had an RBI. Sofia Lieto had two hits and drove in a run and Natalie Lieto had three hits and scored twice. Grace Ely had a hit and scored a run.
Masuk jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and chipped away to build a 6-0 advantage behind single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
