Masuk softball team edges New Milford in extra innings

NEW MILFORD, CT — After having its way with most of the competition to start the spring, Masuk High’s softball team had its toughest win and one of its more competitive games yet.

The Panthers visited New Milford and won 2-1 in extra innings on April 26, improving to 9-1 and dropping the Green Wave to 8-4 in the process.

New Milford led 1-0 after an inning of play and Masuk tied things in the seventh to force extra innings, then won in the ninth.

Pitcher Julia Bacoulis allowed three hits, struck out 15 batters and walked two. She worked with catcher Izzy Viglione.

Ella Bunovsky went 3-for-5 with two singles and a double and drove in the tying and winning runs. Bacoulis went 2-for-5 with two singles. Grace Ely went 2-for-4 with two singles. Madison Aguirre was 1-for-2 with a single. Aubrey Zvovushe-Ramos sacrificed to move runners and got on base with a bunt in the ninth inning. Natalie Lieto also contributed with a single.
