MONROE, CT — In a tough early-season test, the Masuk High softball team defeated visiting Brookfield 9-5 on Monday.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. Masuk responded with three of its own in the bottom of the opening frame and three more in the second.
The Panthers got 11 strikeouts from pitcher Julia Bacoulis, who surrendered five runs on seven hits and walked four.
Grace Ely was 2-for-4 with a double and her first varsity home run. She drove in four runs. Natalie Lieto hit a solo homer and was hit by a pitch twice. Izzy Viglione had a double and two RBIs. Alyssa Castillo was 2-for-4, and Sofia Lieto had a single and an RBI.
