MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls volleyball team is ready for another season on the court. The Panthers are led by captains: Outside hitter Laura Micu and middle hitter Sophie Gustinis.

Other players to watch are outside hitter and returnee Abby Urkawhich, setter Mia Tyler, who also brings leadership to the court, Coach Carol Ortiz said, opposite hitter Addison Scott and middle hitter Lily Yerrington, who returns after being sidelined with an ankle injury last year.

“Our goal for the season is to be the best student-athletes we can be. This team has both experienced and young players — all ready to make an impact. We start by doing the work from within, taking one game at a time and seeing how much our hard work pays off,” Ortiz said.

The season begins with five consecutive home matches, all set for 7 p.m. It starts against FCIAC team Westhill of Stamford Tuesday, Sept. 3. The Panthers host another FCIAC school, Trumbull, Friday, Sept. 13.

Competition against familiar South-West Conference foes begins Monday, Sept. 16, when Immaculate of Danbury visits Monroe. Newtown visits on Wednesday, Sept. 18. New Milford visits the Panthers Friday, Sept. 20.
