The Masuk girls volleyball team leveled its record at 2-2 with a convincing 3-0 (25-18, 25-29, 25-13) road win over SWC foe Pomperaug on Friday, Sept. 18.
Senior captain Rose Kealey paced the offense, dishing out 20 assists to go with her 2 service aces and 1 kill. Sophomore Laura Micu (7 kills, 5 aces, 3 digs, 5 serve receives) had a strong all-around game, while juniors Samantha Sullivan (7 kills, 1 ace, 1 assist, 6 serve receives) and Hannah Fagan (3 kills, 1 ace, 1 dig) chipped in.
Seniors Carly Snyder (2 kills, 8 digs, 17 serve receives), Jenna Datillo (4 aces, 2 serve receives) and captain Lucy Pagel (7 serve receives) provided a steadying influence for the young Panther team. Sophomore Sophie Gustinis made two big blocks up the middle.
It was a strong overall day for the program as the freshmen (2-0) and JV teams (2-1) defeated their counterparts from Pomperaug. The JV team improved to 3-1 on the season, while Friday was the opener for the freshman squad.
Masuk hosts Norwalk on Monday and visits Bunnell on Wednesday, the varsity matches at approximately 5:30 p.m. following JV, and Newtown visits on Friday at 6:15.
