Masuk girls tennis gets underway

Elana Kanjo returns to the singles lineup this season.

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls tennis team got its season going with a home match, at Wolfe Park, against Newtown on April 5 and will be on the road April 10 at New Fairfield and April 12 at Joel Barlow.

Coach Monika Gagnon noted there are many new players in an enthusiastic lineup loaded with team spirit and dedication.

The Panthers are led by Lexia Goldberg Friedman at first singles, Meghan Velkey at second singles, Elana Kanjo at third singles and Elizabeth Teixeira in the fourth slot.

In doubles play, Lelia Giampe and Chloe Norton comprise the top tandem and Samantha Davoren and Madison Poisson make up the second doubles team. Other players who stand to contribute in double play include Duha Barkana, Olivia Belobosky and Ava DeDonato.

The Panthers are scheduled to host Bunnell on Tuesday, April 18.
