Masuk girls soccer team blanks Ledyard, will visit Bethel next

Natalie Fabryk scored the only goal in Masuk's state playoff win over Ledyard on Friday.

MONROE, CT — The No. 14 Masuk High girls soccer team got by No. 19 and visiting Ledyard 1-0 in the opening round of the Class L State Tournament on a windy, unseasonably warm Friday afternoon.

Natalia Fabryk scored the goal with 15:31 remaining in regulation after Amelia Stephens dribbled the ball into the right corner and made a centering pass.

Masuk controlled the play for a bulk of the afternoon with strong possessions before finally breaking the seal.

Amelia Stephens set up the goal that sent Masuk into the second round.

The win sets up a visit to No. 3 Bethel in the second round on Monday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. This is a rematch of South-West Conference teams. Bethel defeated Masuk 2-0 to end the regular season on Oct. 17. It was a scoreless game at the half.

“It was a really good battle last time,” Masuk Coach Kay Kreiner said. “If we come out on our game we have a good chance to move on.”
