Masuk girls lacrosse team ties Brookfield, extends unbeaten streak

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls lacrosse team followed up five straight wins with an 8-8 tie against visiting Brookfield on Friday.

The Panthers jumped out to a 7-3 halftime lead before seeing the Bobcats claw their way back. It was tied 7-7 when Charlotte Pinto scored with 10:57 left, but Brookfield evened things one more time.

Neither team could score in a pair of three-minute overtime periods.

Masuk goaltender Sophia Clark made a big save, one of six in the game, with just under three minutes remaining and the Panthers had a chance to win late in regulation, but were denied.

Sam Henry scored twice, recorded 10 ground balls and had six draw controls to go along with a pair of forced turnovers.

Lilly Cameron scored three times, Pinto finished with a pair of goals and Bailey Bajda added a net-finder.

Masuk had erupted for 66 goals in the previous four games. The Panthers beat Immaculate 18-1 on April 22, topped Stratford-Bunnell 16-3 on April 25, toppled Notre Dame-Fairfield 19-5 on April 27, then crushed New Milford 13-5 on May 2.
