MONROE, CT – This weekend, Masuk drama students performed the play “You’re Only Young Once”, written by Glenn Hughes. The story takes place at Lincoln High in the 1940s.
The action unfolds in the office of school secretary, Ms. Chandler (played by Muriel Bailey) on the day of the school’s homecoming game and dance. The play primarily follows troublemaking student, Gabby Gallagher (played by Daniel Fontana), as he creates mischief and drama.
The efforts of the cast paid off on Thursday, when the show ran smoothly on opening night, according to Director Michael Katz. The cast followed up with two more shows on Saturday.
“We worked really hard on this, three, four times a week,” said Ethan Fonck, who starred as Mr. Birch, the school principal.
“Opening night was such a success! The students did a phenomenal job, I was so proud of them,” Katz said after the show, “and it seemed like the audience enjoyed the show as well!”
The play was full of witty jokes and comedic moments the audience found hilarious, especially when Masuk Principal Steven Swensen made an appearance in the show to play the role of a janitor.
The play starred Daniel Fontana as Gabby Gallagher, Ethan Fonck as Principal Birch, Muriel Bailey as Ms. Chandler, and Brady Ebner as Assistant Principal Petit.
The play also featured Bliss Bray as Gloria Price, Christian Kloter as Dick “Speed” Miller, Krystal Sakal as Paula Chapman, Jordyn Chymbor-Souza as Bernice Johnson, Brody Pierson as Ron Dayton, Sinead O’Leary as Jean Fox, Maya Fisher as Shirley Walker, Addison Hickey as Mrs. Burton Lee, William Barret as Harvey Jones, Ava Alves as Mona Fisher, Richard Bierut as Mervyn “Cluck” Biggs, Dennell Sidne as “Pop” Wilson, Emily O’Reilly as Miss Ross, Allison Catalan as Miss Spencer, Marco Lucca as Mr. Bell, and Ryan Sokira as Mr. Chapman.
The run crew for this production includes Hannah Fedak, Emma Hannum, Olivia Malewicki, Aidan England, Kiersten Meadowes, Amelie Victoria, Molly Kinahan and Ava O’Leary.
The set was built by Doug Katz, and painted by Alexis Read, Madison Patti, Kiersten Meadowes, Olivia Malewicki, Casey Cummings, Alexis Brunelle, and Lily Bender.
The play was produced by Sharon Bartek. Julia Kinahan was the stage manager. Robert Primorac was the lighting director, Pablo Arraya was the sound designer, and the sound technician was Robert Bachman.
