Masuk cross country teams set to make runs at success

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s cross country teams are getting ready to take on the competition this fall.

Jen Nyquist takes over as the new head coach of the girls. The captain is Parker Connolly. Other runners to watch include sophomores Nikol Kupieieva and Kathryn Majersky, along with freshman Abigail Cappolla.

“My goal for the team is to build on the successes they have had in the past. The team has lost five graduating seniors, so we will be rebuilding this year. We will continue to put in the miles, but also build strength over the course of the season,” Nyquist said.

On the boys side, captains are Will Masler and Brayden Hershberger. Other notable runners include Sebastian Riera, Nicholas Jackson and Dylan McKellick.

“We’re a super young team with only two upperclassmen, so our goals have been to continue to get faster times throughout the year and to place top 10 at the Class MM State Championship,” Coach Seamus O’Reilly said.

The first meet will be at Great Hollow Lake on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when Brookfield, Immaculate of Danbury and New Milford visit. The girls will race at 4:30, followed by the boys at 5 p.m.
