MONROE, CT — The Masuk High boys volleyball team will look to bump, set and spike its way into the postseason this spring.
Coach Hipolito Castro has a goal for the Panthers to qualify for the South-West Conference and state tournaments.
“I consider our team one of the top three of seven teams in our conference. We have one of the best outside hitters Nathan McCauley and middle Ryan Barringer in the conference — that is our strength. If we stay healthy and our passers get the ball to our hitters, we will accomplish my goals,” the coach anticipates.
The two toughest teams in the SWC are Newtown and Joel Barlow, said Castro, adding that perennial state powerhouse Darien is Masuk’s toughest non-conference match. Brookfield is new to the conference this spring.
Masuk is led by senior captains Ryan Barringer (middle hitter) and Ethan Rants (outside hitter) as well as junior captain Nathan McCauley (outside hitter).
Other Panthers on the court this spring are senior middle Thomas Micu, senior libero Jacob Moreno, senior defensive specialist Julian Silkman, junior setter Christian DaEira, junior libero Vishnajit Selvaraju, junior middle Owen Smith, freshman outsider hitter Michael Majersky and freshman setter Nathan Kurkoski.
Masuk began the season with a 3-0 loss to Trumbull on April 2 and bounced back with a 3-0 win at NFA on April 4.
