Masuk boys soccer team goes on road for state playoff win

Cole Rigby, in action this fall, had the lone goal in Masuk's state playoff opener.

DANBURY, CT — The No. 26 Masuk High boys soccer team defeated host and No. 7 Abbott Tech of Danbury 1-0 in the Class L State Tournament’s first round on Friday.

Senior captain Cole Rigby found the back of the net less than 10 minutes into the game and the Panthers held the lead the rest of the way. The Masuk defense was strong behind the play of senior captains Tommy Warner and goaltender Connor Kehlenbach.

Masuk advances to the second round and will look to pull off another upset in a visit to No. 10 Wethersfield on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 2 or 4 p.m.

Rigby earned First Team All SWC honors, Thomas Warner and Kehlenbach both earned All SWC Colonial Division honors and Cash Dewey took home All SWC Honorable Mention accolades.
