MONROE, CT — The Masuk High boys basketball team won a see-saw battle with visiting New Milford on Friday night, coming out on top 57-53 in a solid team effort. The Panthers improved their record to 8-6 and now qualify for the state playoffs.
Mitch DeBernardo led Masuk with 19 points, nine of which came on a trio of 3-pointers. DeBernardo had a couple of key baskets late in regulation, a field goal to cut the New Milford lead to two and a huge 3-pointer to give the Panthers the lead.
Matt Domenichelli scored 18 points and dominated the glass. Domenichelli also had a key block and rebound late in the game to help preserve the win. Ethan Palma scored eight points and came up clutch at the free throw line with a late 4-for-4 performance, including a pair to make it a two-possession game with just seconds left.
Colin Francisco played great defense on New Milford’s top player.
The Panthers were coming off 77-61 loss at Brookfield on Wednesday. Domenichelli led Masuk with 23 points in that defeat.
