Masuk boys basketball team set to begin season

Alex Simoulidis and the Panthers, in action last winter, begin this season Friday at home against Trumbull.

MONROE, CT — The Masuk High boys basketball team gets back at it with the regular season set to begin Friday, Dec. 20, at home against Trumbull at 7 p.m. Masuk is looking to make some noise in the South-West Conference and State playoffs.

Captains this year are seniors Stephen Sentementes, Alex Simoulidis and Oliver Irving.

“I’m very excited for this year and looking forward to our guard play for the upcoming season. We will be led by our senior captains, as well as returning starters, junior Mitch DeBernardo, and junior forward Saijon Gavin,” Coach Peter Szklarz said. “Seniors Jayden Cassese and Chris Welch and juniors Nick Rodrigues, Jaylen Africot and Aiden Diaz will be looked to for production this year.

“We will have a different look this year, but I love the pieces we have! Our goals remain the same: to make and advance in the SWC and State Tournament,” the coach added.

The Panthers are back home Monday, Dec. 23, to take on the other FCIAC school from Trumbull, as St. Joseph visits at 6 p.m.
