Masuk baseball team has mix of experience, youth

MONROE, CT — A combination of solid returnees and some newcomers will look to carry the Masuk High baseball team to a successful campaign this spring.

Captains are Greg Nivison and Ryan Fedeli. Other key players include seniors Cody Benegoss, Mason Hope, Deven LaRoche and Drew Scalia, and junior pitchers Justin Feinstein and Quinn McGuire.

“Our team is a mix of experienced returning players and some exciting newcomers. We return some experienced pitchers so we are hoping that will be a strength of our team,” Coach Brian Hourigan said.

Masuk’s schedule stands to test the Panthers from start to finish.

“Our toughest competitors in the SWC will be Newtown, Bethel, Brookfield and Joel Barlow. We also have a very challenging out of conference schedule playing Trumbull, Ridgefield, Fairfield-Ludlowe, Glastonbury, Brien McMahon, Woodland and Oxford.

The Panthers opened the season on the road with a 2-1 loss to Ridgefield on April 3, then bounced back with an 8-6 win at McMahon the following afternoon.
