Keep Monroe a great place to live, by voting for Tony Scott

To the Editor,

This letter is in support of Tony Scott. Since his initial election as state representative from the 112th district, Tony has worked to thwart the Democrat’s intrusion into our lives from Hartford. Tonys battle has only been made more difficult by the increase in the numbers of Democrats being elected from large urban parts of Connecticut.

I would like a stop to unfunded mandates. Meaning the State telling small communities how to run their towns. Generally, these mandates cost us, the residents of Monroe,  money which causes our taxes to go up.

I am most disturbed by the Hartford politicians working hand in glove with an organization called Desegregate Connecticut. According to their website, “Formed in June 2020, in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd and the renewed conversation on racial justice, our work is about first imagining and then enacting a new vision for local and state land use policies …”

In other words, they are going to come in and remake our town the way they imagine it.

I have nothing against Hartford and New Haven, however, I moved to Monroe to avoid the congestion. Their plan leads to social fragmentation rather than unity. Residents who have built their lives in specific neighborhoods may find themselves uprooted, which can lead to emotional distress and a loss of community support systems.

Rather than imposing forced integration, Tony has worked for alternative strategies that promote voluntary integration through incentives rather than mandates. Programs that enhance affordable housing availability and improve local schools can create environments where diverse communities thrive naturally.

Hartford Democrats have been at it for years with moves to regionalize education and create a statewide property tax. Tony Scott has fought for commonsense solutions to our local zoning issues, he listens to us, as he takes the battle to Hartford for home rule.

Please help us on the Monroe Planning and Zoning Commission to continue to keep Monroe a great place to live, by voting for Tony Scott.
