To the Editor,
It is my honor to enthusiastically endorse Tony Scott as Monroe’s next State Representative. Tony has served our community for many years in leadership roles on boards and commissions, including his current service as a member of Town Council.
It has been through this service to our community that I have had the pleasure of working with, and getting to know, Tony as a person. Tony is passionate about his representation of Monroe. He always views matters from a town wide perspective, and considers how issues impact all our residents. I have confidence that Tony will bring this same passion and perspective to Hartford.
Legislative actions in our state often involve complexities, requiring critical thinking to truly understand the full impacts of a new state law. What sounds good on the surface may have significant unintended consequences. There are currently over 1,400 state mandates on towns, many of which are unfunded. We desperately need leadership in Hartford that will fight against this alarming trend. Unfunded state mandates force local property tax increases.
Tony’s diverse background in both the corporate world and the public sector has given him the valuable experience necessary to effectively evaluate these often complicated questions. However, in the final analysis, I know his vote will be based on a simple question: Will proposed legislation be good for the Monroe and Newtown families and businesses he represents?
