Frosty fields questions and helps light tree at Stepney Green

Frosty the Snowman arrives at Save Our Stepney's annual Tree Lighting aboard a Stepney fire truck Saturday night.

MONROE, CT — If you ever wanted to know a little something about Frosty the Snowman the Save Our Stepney Annual Tree Lighting with Frosty was the place to be on Saturday night.

Frosty, upon his arrival by firetruck and some high fives from young attendees, answered questions from some of the guests.

Asked what year he was born, Frosty replied: “I’m so old I can’t remember.”

When asked how tall he is, Frosty said it depends on the snowfall.

Emcee Joel Leneker introduced First Selectman Terry Rooney, President of the Save Our Stepney Task Force Kathie Loehr and The Rev. Kevin Merritt of Stepney Baptist Church, who welcomed everyone across the street for caroling at the church following the event.

The a cappella choral group Just Voices, under the direction of Michael Pellegrino, performed a variety of Christmas carols. Beverly Doyle, with help from several girls and boys, read “‘Twas The Night Before Christmas.”

Boy Scouts from Troop 62 were on hand serving hot cider and freshly-made hot oil donuts. Even the Grinch was into the holiday spirit. With snow on the ground and holiday songs in the air it was a festive night for all … and to all a good night.
