MONROE, CT — Clerks at 12 of 16 town businesses passed unannounced compliance checks against the sale of tobacco products and/or electronic cigarettes to minors.
On Tuesday, Feb. 15, Monroe police officers worked with Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to conduct the unannounced compliance checks as part of the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program.
The inspections were meant to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of e-cigarettes and/or tobacco products to youth under the age of 21.
Offending clerks at the four noncompliant establishments were issued a $300 infraction. The following retailers were found to be noncompliant:
- Brand Cigars, 230 Roosevelt Drive (Route 34)
- Henny Penny/Shell Gas Station, 241 Roosevelt Drive (Route 34)
- Smokers Tune, 292 Elm Street
- Mobil/High Mart, 172 Main Street (Route 25)
