MONROE, CT — Family Shoes is extending the hours for its combined shoe and estate sale to Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Christmas. The business, which had been open sporadically over the past 20 years, was once a thriving shoe store in the Chuck’s Corner shopping center at 150 Main St.
Its founder, Stephen Chuckta Sr., recently passed away, so his children decided to sell the remaining shoes that are in good condition, as well as a wide variety of estate items, before closing its doors for good, making way for a new business to move into the space.
Family Shoes first opened further down Route 25, as the Trumbull Family Shoe Outlet in 1963, before moving to Chuck’s Corner in Monroe and changing its name.
“On behalf of our family, I’d like to thank all of the people who shared fond memories of my dad fitting shoes for families who shopped the store in those early years,” said Susan Smith, Chuckta’s daughter.
Since an article on the sale appeared in The Sun on Nov. 17, Smith said more estate items were brought in, and men’s Carolina work boots are now discounted at 20-percent off, rather than 10.
All pairs of shoes are 50 percent off.
