Evelyn “Evie” Andrejczyk, 87, of Monroe, passed away at her home on March 18, 2023.
Born in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Bresson) Pendergast. She grew up in Newtown, graduated from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Bridgeport and worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
She met her husband Chet, proprietor of Cross Roads Store in Newtown, on a blind date and was married for 49 years until his death in 2006.
In 1992 she returned to nursing, working at Gardner Heights in Shelton.
Evie enjoyed attending women’s Bible studies, writing about her life experiences, playing the guitar and spending time with family and friends. Her children’s weddings and mission adventures took her to Aruba, Brazil, Germany, Hawaii, Mexico and South Africa.
For many years she and Chet were members of St. Jude’s prayer group in Monroe. She would offer a prayer to whomever she came in contact with. Her care for others was displayed by her selfless giving and the ability to make anyone feel unique and loved. She was like a second mom to many. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren.
Evie is survived by her 13 children: Bob, Ann Hooker (husband Scott), Mary, Cindy Sandberg (husband Scott), Joe (wife Cheryl), Ed (wife Missy), Beth Cuellar (husband Manny), Chris, Mark (wife Stacy), David (wife Heidi), Lyn Spalding (husband Roy), Joshua (wife Tiffany) and Jonathan (wife JoAnn).
She also leaves behind 27 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Her brother, John Pendergast, and sister, Eileen Garlichs, also survive her. In addition to her parents, Evie was predeceased by her brother Fred Pendergast.
