EASTON, CT — It’s after midnight, and you fell off a ladder replacing a bulb. Your shoulder is throbbing. Or you have after dinner chest pain. What if it’s just heartburn? What if it isn’t?
Some people are hesitant to call for help fearing it will be a waste of EMS time and a personal embarrassment. Easton’s Volunteer Emergency Medical Services staff of 28 volunteers and 2 full-time paid EMTs believe in “better safe than sorry.”
Their message to all Easton residents is emphatic: When in doubt call 911 and EMS will be dispatched. Chest pain, falls, injuries, difficulty breathing, accidents; EMS volunteers are dedicated to help.
To make the decision easier, the Courier would like to introduce readers to some of the men and women who volunteer with the EMS team. Each brings a unique skill set, but all are eager to serve 24/7.
This week we profile Victor Malindretos, president of the Board of Trustees, director of communications and an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) with the Easton EMS.
Community service is central to Malindretos’ life. In addition to his involvement in the Easton EMS, he is a volunteer in the Southwest Connecticut EMS Council and a firefighter with the Easton Volunteer Fire Department.
Malindretos also has more than 20 years of IT experience working for many large corporations within Fairfield County. He is currently an IT Service Desk Manager for Inline Plastics Corporation in Shelton. His background in computer networking, administration, engineering and business management supports his day-to-day functions in his current role.
He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Bridgeport and has a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB) Certification. Malindretos is also an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and HeartSaver CPR Instructor as well as a Notary Public for the State of Connecticut.
In his spare time, Malindretos enjoys the outdoors. Boating and snowmobiling are two of his seasonal favorites. His other hobbies include playing guitar, going to movies and concerts, and spending time at home in Monroe with his wife, Jennifer, and their two cats, Mable and Melie. He likes driving his collectible Mustang and traveling abroad, especially taking cruises and visiting his family in Greece.
