Veterans Day Ceremony
MONROE, CT — The public is invited to a ceremony on Stepney Green, commemorating Veterans Day and acknowledging and remembering veterans contributions and sacrifices, Thursday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m.
The opening prayer will be offered by The Rev. Kevin Merritt of Stepney Baptist church and American Legion Posts 176 of Monroe and 160 of Easton will hold memorial services.
Monroe Post 176 is led by Commander Vic Yanosy and Easton Post 160 is led by Commander Donald Rodgerson.
Community leaders will participate in the ceremonies along with decorated veterans and members of the Women’s Auxiliary. Save our Stepney Task Force will post 13 American flags over the green to honor veterans for the occasion.
Following the ceremonies, there will be a laying of the wreaths next to the World War I plaque and a lowering of the flag. Father Rodriquez, of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, will offer the benediction.
Town traffic update
Drivers should expect minor lane closures and delays for roadwork from Monday, Nov. 1, through Friday, Nov. 12, according to the Monroe Public Works Department’s traffic impact notice.
Paving will be done on Benedict Road, from West Maiden Lane to Meadows End Road; and on East Village Road, from Route 111 to Barn Hill Road.
Drainage work will be done on East Village Road, from Barn Hill Road to the town line; and drainage and utility work is scheduled for Pepper Street, from Grant Road to northern Route 25.
Swim lessons at Masuk
The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is offering swim lessons for children and adults at the Masuk Pool. Swimmers are reminded there is no open swim on days with swim lessons.
- Session 1M runs on Mondays November 15, 2021-December 13, 2021 (registration Oct. 22- Nov. 9).
- Session 2M runs on Mondays January 10, 2022-February 14, 2022 (registration Dec. 13-Jan. 4). No lessons Jan. 17.
- Session 3M runs on Mondays March 7, 2022-April 4, 2022 (registration Feb. 14-March 1).

Parks & Rec. fall, winter programs
Monroe Parks and Recreation is offering a variety of programs for the fall and winter seasons.
The Masuk Pool is available for open swim. Schedules, rates, and memberships are located on the Parks and Recreation website. The department is also hiring certified lifeguards and water safety instructors.
Students in grades 1-5 are invited to register for Tom O’Brien’s Wizards School of Magic at Jockey Hollow Middle School on Nov. 30.
Mad Science – NASA’s Milky Way Mission will also be running Nov. 8 to Dec. 13 at Jockey Hollow Middle School for students grades 1-6.
Code Wiz: Online Coding Classes are available virtually for children ages 7-and-older on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Youth Basketball Leagues are available for both boys and girls grades 3-8 and high school students between November and March.
The Future Stars Basketball Winter Clinic is open for registration for students in grades K-2 with sessions on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Connex supports Habitat for Humanity
Employees from Connex Credit Union recently presented Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven with a check for $1,000 as part of its ConnexCares program, a philanthropic initiative dedicated to improving the communities its employees and members live and work in.
The volunteer group also supported the nonprofit organization’s mission to eliminate poverty housing by spending the day helping build safe and affordable homes for low-income working families.
