Congratulations to Masuk High School's National Merit Scholars.

MONROE, CT — Masuk High School acknowledged its National Merit Scholars for their outstanding achievement on the PSAT/NMSQT.

Jackson Zambarano and Nicholas Caggiano were selected as National Merit Semi-finalists and the following students were selected as National Merit Commended Students: Connor Cybart, Jane Ding, Michael Edgar, Kathryn Gallant, Kevin Giordano, Keara Kirberger, Sherry Li, Jacob Moreno, Roan Riordan, Suja Srinivasin, Julian Zeppetello and Alexander Zhelonkin.

Principal Steven Swensen joined the National Merit Scholars in a photo in front of the school.

Masuk Drama Club presents ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’

The Masuk Drama Club will perform “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” on Friday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, June 6, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Eliot Beardsley Homestead, 31 Great Ring Road in Monroe.

“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” was written by John Heimbuch, created in collaboration with Jon Ferguson and based on the story by Washington Irving.

The play will be performed outdoors, unless there is inclement weather. In that case the play will be moved to Masuk High School. The show runs for approximately one hour.

The Monroe Historical Society worked with the Masuk Drama Club on the production, helping to transform the grounds of the Eliot Beardsley Homestead (built 1760) into the town of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.

The production will be directed and designed by Tom Simonetti of the Valley Shakespeare Festival. Maggie McShane will serve as assistant director and the stage management is Christopher Tierney. The show will feature costumes by Anna Cretella and lighting will be done by Robert Primorac and sound design by Bob Bachman. It is produced by Sharon Bartek.

The cast features Tristan Reeder as the schoolteacher Ichabod Crane, Jude Bailey as Brom Bones and Erin Daly as their love interest, Katrina Van Tassell.

The cast is rounded out by Jonathan Fontana as Baltus Van Tassell, Jackie Cohen as Hans Van Ripper and Sana Sarr as Parson Van Houten. Jamie Grosso takes on the role of Gunpowder.

The ensemble features Keegan Simons, Marissa Eichler, Audrey Lesko, Vibhuti Jani, Muriel Bailey, Madison Haughney, Ana de Carvalho, Maile Booth and Aaron Persico.   Featured as Phantoms, who will entertain the audience in our frightening pre-show are Amanda Carroll, Isabelle “Izzy” Tiska and Nina Gomez.

Tip-A-Cop for the Special Olympics

Monroe police officers will host a Tip-A-Cop event to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut athletes at Roberto’s Restaurant, 505 Main St., on Friday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 9 p.m.

During the event, the officers will volunteer their time to assist restaurant staff in taking orders and serving customers. All tips they receive will go to Special Olympics Connecticut to support its year-round sports, health and fitness programs for athletes of all abilities. Tip-a-Cop is a Law Enforcement Torch Run activity to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut.
