Community News: A gold medal for the Panthers and more

Masuk Panthers Unified Sports Basketball players with their coach, Donald M. Casey Jr.

SOUTHBURY, CT — The Masuk Panthers Unified Sports Basketball Team was awarded a gold medal for its participation in a basketball tournament at Pomperaug High School on Feb. 26.

The Panthers played games against Unified Sports Teams from Newtown, Kennedy and Trumbull High Schools.

In addition to playing basketball, students from all four teams participated in a halftime dance party, enjoying slices of pizza.

Prior to that, Masuk’s Unified Sports Basketball Team participated in a tournament at Newtown Youth Academy on Feb. 19, playing games against Unified Sports Teams from Bunnell, Trumbull and Kennedy High Schools.

Students from all teams participated in a halftime dance party and played Cornhole.

The tournament concluded with a pizza party and every student was awarded a medal.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

ST. John XXIII Council 5987 Knights of Columbus invites members of the public to its St. Patrick’s Day Celebration with the band Keltic Kick.

The cabaret style concert will be held in the St. Jude Social Hall, Saturday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. It is BYOB and corned beef sandwiches and hot dogs will be sold. Tickets are $25 and reservations are required.

The United Methodist Church of Monroe is hosting its spring American Red Cross Blood Drive at the church, 515 Cutlers Farm Road, on Thursday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Comedian Dale Dymkoski is coming to the Bijou

Standup comedian Dale Dymkoski, a member of Masuk’s Class of 1990, will perform at the Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport on March 22.

“It’s really an autobiographical show,” Dymkoski said. “I try to bring people together through laughter. The theme of the show is defying labels and overcoming obstacles. I’m a stroke survivor, a person with a disability, but I don’t really feel defined by those things. I don’t connect with that. We all want to put people in boxes, judge people, but it’s not who we are. We don’t need to hate each other over these things.”

Yoshee So, Dymkoski’s close friend and brother in comedy, will be the opening act.

Mason Lee named to Champlain College Trustees’ List

BURLINGTON, VT — Mason Lee of Monroe was named to the Champlain College Trustees’ List for the Fall 2024 semester.

Students on the Trustees’ List have achieved a 4.0 grade point average for two or more consecutive semesters. Lee is majoring in Data Science.

Making the Trustees’ List is a tremendous achievement. Many of the high achievers balance their career-focused classes with jobs, internships, clubs, and volunteering.

University of Hartford Fall 2024 Dean’s, President’s lists

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The University of Hartford announced that 2,291 students have been named to the Dean’s List and President’s List for the fall 2024 semester.

The Dean’s List recognizes students achieving superior academic standing. The requirement, with some exceptions, is a grade point average of at least 3.0 and no grade below C.

The President’s List recognizes a select group of students reaching the highest level of academic standing. To be placed on the President’s List, students must maintain a GPA of at least a 3.75 and receive grades of C or better.

Monroe resident named to Clark University’s Fall Dean’s List

WORCESTER, MA — Eileen B. Riley of Monroe was named to second honors on the Clark University Dean’s List. This selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the Fall 2024 semester.

Students must have a GPA of 3.8 or above for first honors or a GPA between 3.50 and 3.79 for second honors.

Lesko makes Dean’s List

BROOKLYN, NY — Long Island University announced that Audrey Lesko, of Monroe, was named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2024 semester.

Dean’s List students complete a minimum of 12 credits and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.5 in any one semester.

Amber Hanna makes Dean’s List

DELHI, NY — SUNY Delhi recently announced that Amber Hanna, of Monroe, has been named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2024 semester. Hanna is pursuing an associate degree in Veterinary Science Technology.

The Dean’s List is a recognition of academic achievement for students who are enrolled in six or more credits and earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester.

Tufts University Dean’s List recipients

MEDFORD, Mass. — Tufts University recently announced the Dean’s List for the fall 2024 semester. Dean’s list honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

Salve Regina University announces Dean’s List

NEWPORT, R.I. — The following Monroe students were named to the Dean’s List during the fall 2024 academic semester at Salve Regina University.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.6 for full-time students completing at least 12 graded credits, or a semester grade point average of 3.8 for part-time students completing at least six credits.

Carolyn Freeman makes Goodwin University’s President’s List

EAST HARTFORD, CT — Carolyn Freeman of Monroe, earned a place on Goodwin University’s President’s List for the fall 2024 session.

The fall 2024 President’s List includes 266 students, all of who scored a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Cassondra Beatty Makes Goodwin Dean’s List

EAST HARTFORD, CT — Cassondra Beatty has earned a spot on the Goodwin University Dean’s List for fall 2024.

Cassondra, a student from Monroe, is one of 503 students to make the Dean’s List, reserved for those who demonstrate great academic performance.

Dean’s List inclusion requires a student to earn a minimum 3.5 GPA, the equivalent of an A- average, during a given academic session. The student must also be enrolled in a minimum of six academic credits to qualify.

University of Tampa Honors Dean’s List Students

TAMPA, FL — University of Tampa has honored 2,300 students who were named to the dean’s list for the Fall 2024 semester. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible for the Dean’s List.

Local students make Holy Cross’ Deans List

WORCESTER, Mass. — More than 1,700 students were named to the College of the Holy Cross’ Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement during the Fall semester of the 2024-25 academic year. The following Monroe students made the list:

Abigail Kellogg, class of 2025

To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must pass four or more letter-graded courses with no failing grades during the semester and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
