SHELTON, CT — They’re the champions. Masuk High’s hockey team blanked the Joel Barlow co-op team 3-0 in the SCC-SWC Tournament championship game at The Rinks at Shelton Friday.
The game was scoreless through two periods and remained deadlock midway into the third. Drew Scalia, who was named tournament MVP, opened the scoring off assists from Alex May and Austin Braiewa.
Nick Kondub was set by Kyle Sutfin for a 2-0 lead, and Kondub added an empty net goal, assisted by May and Braiewa.
Masuk goaltender Maddex LaFountain had 18 saves and Connor Thomas made 29 saves for the Barlow co-op.
The teams played twice during the regular season. Masuk won the first meeting 4-1 and the teams skated to a 2-2 tie in the second matchup.
