To the Editor:
I am writing to support Terry Rooney for first selectman of Monroe. I have known Terry and his family since I was 11 years old. I’ve played soccer with his son, Conor, for as long as I can remember, and our families have been close friends for many years.
I first met Terry on the soccer field at a young age while being Conor’s teammate. From day one, it was clear that Terry is a family man. Terry was always our number one supporter during our games and, while doing so, instilled the hardworking values that have shaped Conor into the successful collegiate student-athlete he is today.
For as long as I’ve known him, Terry is someone that you can count on no matter what. I’ll never forget when I reached out to Terry during my senior year of High School, seeking an internship at Town Hall. Terry immediately sprung into action and had me on the phone with First Selectman Kellogg within minutes.
My experience from that internship taught me all about the functions of a municipal government, and I owe it all to Terry and his incredible commitment to the people of this town. When Terry noticed my interest in public service, he gave me an opportunity with Monroe’s Youth Commission, making me the town’s youngest public servant. Terry’s selfless actions and work ethic benefit young Monroe residents like myself to get involved within the town.
Beyond Terry’s great personality, he is furthermore qualified for first selectman due to his outstanding work within the Town Council. As someone who has experience with public service at a young age, serving as Student Council President of Notre Dame Catholic High School along with experience in Town Hall, I can appreciate the great work and dedication he has put in for the betterment of the town.
With several years as a Councilman and the Chairman of the EMS building, Terry has proven time and time again that he delivers tremendous results for Monroe. Under Terry Rooney’s leadership, he will maintain fiscal conservatism while controlling taxes and spending, as he already has proven in the Town Council. Terry always delivers because he genuinely cares about Monroe. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the best man for the job and will become a great first selectman.
All in all, a vote for Terry Rooney is a vote for progress, experience, and results, along with a kindhearted, passionate, hard worker who loves our town more than anyone. My family and I are honored to vote for Terry Rooney for First Selectman, and I hope you will too!
