MONROE, CT — The American Legion Sippin-Winspur Post 176 in Monroe is hosting a statewide Third District Kids’ Walk at Great Hollow Lake this Saturday to benefit the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a check-in and signup at the Lake Pavilion at the end of the long driveway at 454 Purdy Hill Road. Organizers recommend that participants wear a mask, while in the pavilion.
Because the lake area is not officially open until around Memorial Day, a Monroe parks sticker is not needed to enter the lakeside of Wolfe Park.
All seven of Connecticut’s American Legion Districts will be participating at designated areas around the state. All of the Post and Auxiliary members who help with the fundraiser are volunteers and 100 percent of the donations will benefit the Connecticut Children’s’ Medical Center to help care for children and provide lifesaving research.
Anyone who wishes to participate in the Kids’ Walk or donate may come to the pavilion at Great Hollow Lake to take part. There’s no need to be a veteran or an American Legion member. All participants will be given water and simple snacks.
Those who cannot attend can still help by sending a check made out to “CT Children’s Medical Center” to Post 176 Commander Victor Yanosy, 107 Cutlers Farm Road, Monroe, CT 06468. All donations are tax deductible.
According to the CCMC, “when you give to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, you are helping to keep children safer and healthier through educational initiatives, to support academic medical professionals in their pursuit of discovery through research, and to ensure the availability of innovative and lifesaving treatments for children in Connecticut and beyond.”
The Connecticut Children’s Medical Center provides specialty care for infants to young adults and athletes. They have locations in Shelton, Danbury, Hartford, Farmington and Glastonbury. Walk-in and same-day appointments are available in Danbury, Hartford, Farmington and Glastonbury.
