The following is First Selectman Ken Kellogg’s update on the coronavirus situation in Monroe.
MONROE, CT — As I announced on social media this morning, it is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of a Monroe resident, a man in his 70’s, from COVID-19. We extend our deepest condolences to his family. It is heartbreaking that we have joined our neighboring towns in experiencing the loss of a resident from this disease.
As of this afternoon, we have a total of 35 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Monroe, and we continue to post updated counts daily on our website.
Some additional updates:
- As you are probably aware, the Governor’s latest executive orders extend the current restrictions until May 20th.This includes the current closure of schools and non-essential business, the “safe workplace rules” for those essential businesses that can remain open, and the limitation on social and recreational gatherings to no more than 5 people.
- As I mentioned in a written update earlier this week, this year’s budget process is being finalized to comply with the Governor’s orders. More information is provided on the Town’s website, including how you may submit written comments on the budget, at www.MonroeCT.org/budget.
- While religious and spiritual gatherings remain limited to no more than 50 people, please remember that we must continue to keep each other safe. As I mentioned earlier this week, we must find ways modify our deeply held traditions and find ways to connect with both faith and family while practicing social distancing.I wish everyone peace and good health during this holiday season.— First Selectman Ken Kellogg
