MONROE, CT —First Selectman Ken Kellogg is now including the age range of Monroe residents diagnosed with COVID-19 on the town website. Monroe’s cases recently jumped from 10 to 19, affecting those in their 20s to their 70s.
“Yes, we did have a bump in cases after holding steady for several days,” Kellogg said Wednesday. “As I’ve been saying, we are in Fairfield County and more cases are to be expected, just as our neighboring towns have experienced.”
“Also keep in mind that we report the data on the day we receive it from the state, which is not when the test was done — so there is a lag that can range quite a bit,” he added. “And, as we continue to see increased testing in the state there will also be more laboratory-confirmed cases.”
Fairfield County is the hardest his part of the state with 4,136 cases, according to the Department of Public Health. Among other counties, there are 1,664 confirmed cases in New Haven, 1,045 in Hartford, 255 in Litchfield, 150 in Middlesex, 111 in Tolland, 85 in New London and 43 in Windham.
“The bottom line is that we are in an area of a state that continues to face increased cases, so the message on social distancing is more important than ever,” Kellogg said.
The breakdown in Monroe’s COVID-19 cases is seven people from age 60 to 69, four from 50 to 59, three from 30 to 39, two from 70 to 79, two from 40 to 49, and one from age 20 to 29.
