MONROE, Conn. — A 56-year-old North Carolina man was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with back pain following a one-vehicle-crash into a utility pole off Main Street on June 26. The accident sparked several 911 calls and temporarily closed off a portion of Route 25.
Police said he was heading north on Route 25 around 9:32 a.m. when his red 2012 Nissan Rogue drifted to the right, struck the pole, bounced back into the roadway and rolled onto its left side, before coming to rest in the middle of the road. The rollover accident occurred just north of Northbrook Drive.
The driver was standing outside of the vehicle when police arrived. He reportedly told officers he took his eyes off the road for a minute and the next thing he knew, he hit the pole.
He was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane and for distracted driving. His damaged vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.
The driver was evaluated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical personnel at the scene. Firefighters also responded to the call.
Officers detoured traffic to Pepper Street, while investigating the scene of the accident and Eversource was called in to repair the damaged pole.
